Mediterranean cruise port of calls info. – can I go to those places without joining the tours?
I plan to take the 11 days cruise to: Santorini, Athens, Istanbul, Ephesus, Mykonos, Naples/Capri (Sorrento), Rome. Can I go to these places on a self guided tours without joining the tours from the cruise line as they are so expensive. How far are these ports to those places, can I walk, take public transit, or taxi? Any tips?

Of course you can “self guide”, but, you might also consider booking excursions in packages, covering say…. 3 ports, from a reputable company that gives you the same guarantee as the ship’s excursions, at 40% less.
The biggest advantage to ship sponsored excursions, other than their quality, is their GUARANTEE that you’ll be back for sailing, and if not, they assume responsibility for getting you to the ship.
The people I would recommend, offer the same guarantee and you save the commission they would pay to the ship (+/- 40%). Another advantage is you get to choose from what is actually available, as opposed to the choices the ship may offer.
