Barcelona Parking For Cars
Wherever you’ve booked your las ramblas apartment, such is the quality of the transport system that you don’t need a car to enjoy Barcelona. The metro, along with buses and trams, means there is no real need for having one. No matter where you want to stop, there will also be a way of getting there with no hassle. Sometimes, however, having the car with you is unavoidable. In these circumstances, parking will be an important factor.
One thing to bear in mind before you decide on where to park is safety. Like in any city in the world, there is a slight risk if you don’t take necessary precautions. Cars with foreign registration plates are more often targeted by thieves, so you should be doubly safe. Always make sure that your windows are rolled all the way up and all of the car doors are locked. For extra peace of mind, try and leave your car in a park with its own surveillance.
For short-term parking, there are lots of places to choose from. Prices per hour start from around €2. The cheapest parking is on offer at B:SM car parks, which have the lowest hourly rates. There are three B:SM parks situated just outside the city. They allow you to park your car at a low price before getting on a bus to take you into the city centre.
For a longer term parking option, you should try to get your hands on the P-Month Card. It costs €41 and entitles you to park for 12 hours a day, Monday to Saturday in three different lots. These are the Placa del Forum, Sant Genis Vale d’Hebron and Rius i Taulet Fira.
Those planning on staying in the city for a week can pick up another B:SM card which could save them lots of money. Costing just €75, the P-8 day card allows you to park at Barcelona Nord Bus Station for eight consecutive days.
You’ll find this lot right next to the metro station and it is one of the best locations to park in the city. If you leave your car here before enjoying the city you won’t find getting back a few days later a hassle. So, after you’ve picked up a few souvenirs from your time in Barcelona, you are but a short journey from your car.
The P-8 day card, however, is only valid for continuous parking. This means that, should you decide to take the car out after less than eight days, you can’t return. In this way, it is ideally suited for people who want to spend a week in the town before continuing with their road trip.
It is common for people to bring camper vans to Barcelona as part of a European tour. To cater for the demands of these people is the camping car parking on the Ronda Litoral in an area called the Forum. You can have your car secured for just €17 a day and be satisfied that it is safe and secure.
Even in the unlikely circumstance that all other car parks are full, the airport is an option. It is the biggest car park in the city, with 12,000 spaces in total, so there should never be a shortage. Prices start from €18 per day for the first four days and €15 after that. A week’s stay will cost you around €115.
The last thing you want is to run out of money for parking, which would cut short your stay in Barcelona. So, before you leave, make sure you have set aside enough funds for the various places you’ll be leaving your car. It may not seem like a big expensive at first, but parking for a few days can start to add up.
While it is advisable that you come to Barcelona ‘car-less’, if you absolutely need personal transport, there are many car parks. You don’t have to worry about where you leave your car, there are lots all over the city. You’ll find that, on the whole, parking is reasonably priced and public transport is always close to hand. The only thing you have to make sure is that you take cost into account before you leave.
